Down and Nearly Out

My apologies for the lengthy lapse in posting--the underbelly, and laughing belly, of life caught up with me...a sure sign that it's time for me to move on. Oh! But I'm building a house; a permanent fixture in a fixed location. Who the hell's idea was THAT??

OK, the last installment introduced you to my most recent visitors. They will be joined before too long by two other of the same species as I intend to use the four of 'em to be my property markers. It's a very long story, and some of you know of my fascination, belief and first hand account of space aliens, so you know they will also serve as the permanent welcoming committee when the Mayan Cosmogenesis comes about. I'll be here on the property with puppies, cohorts, coolers of food and drink and a small bag of things-that-eternally-amuse-me when the UFOs come looking for 'prospects'.

I was forced to take a sick day today. I've caught a cold that makes it patently clear that my head needs to ripped off, drained, scoured, sanitized, debacterialized and set aside until my lungs can be proffered from their cavity and be attended to in a similar manner. My students yesterday were all telling me how horrible I looked, offering to watch the class for me and when I said, "OK! Will you just send me a quick text if I need to wake up and yell at someone?" they heartily responded in the affirmative. I didn't even threaten to take their cell phone away--THAT'S how sick I am!

Much has transpired since the alien invasion: Rex was put out by the tightening up of the monies. I was put out by the expenses and little progress. I was ready to fire Rex, and he was ready to quit. Somehow we decided to just get back on track and get this house built. The bank has gotten more demanding, so now I make my draw requests very detailed and give them benchmarks that they can expect to see following each chunk 'o change they slide over into my account. It should be ok from here on out.

Idiot Boy @ the State Dept. of Environment decided that it IS way too far to come out here for a 2nd inspection of the septic system, so after ignoring about 6 of my phone calls I finally spoke to "My Buddy" Veronica, the receptionist and she said that the permit was signed off and we were good to go. And, yes! We can start burying the septic system!! One more pile o'rocks to move around, woohoo!!

Seems I can now add video to my blog, and since I got a battery charger for my DVD camcorder I can go back to shooting 'video' of the build, then I can add the video to the blog so maybe I won't write so much....Naaaaaaaw.

A space heater, a heavy Mexican blanket over the trailer door and a heavy duty sleeping bag, down comforter and warm woolies keep me moderately warm through the chilly nights of late in the Tin Can Trailer. None of it does diddly-pooh in preventing a cold, but at least I've been warm in between bouts of the chills.

My very longtime friend April came from Colorado to visit for 3 days. We'd only been sporadically in touch over the last 8 years, as has happened off and on over the 30 years we've known each other. She hasn't changed. Apparently neither have I. I guess that's a good thing. It was nice spending uninterrupted time with her after such a long, spastic hiatus.

School is going well. I wish I could keep up the enthusiasm on an everyday daily basis, but these freshman have got way more energy than I do. Guess I'll just grab hold and enjoy the ride. At least they keep me amused most days.

LAVA BLOCK HERE...

AND LAVA BLOCK THERE...

AND MORE HERE...

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??

CRIKEY! SOMEONE'S BUILDING A HOUSE!

The progress on the house is coming along at quite a good clip now. It's like looking at Stonehenge through a kalidescope--door frames just keep popping up and more little slabs of concrete get set every day. Road base has been put in to Norbert's instructions and it's starting to look like it may just be a nice abode...someday.

I'M SCREENING THE BIG MOUND OF CLAY SO IT'S READY FOR USE IN THE ADOBE FLOORS. I HAVE A WAYS TO GO.

From my keyboarding of this post to the oversized eyes of the aliens...manana everybody!

Ay! Pobrecita... I hope that Mexican Sarape is doing it's job against the chilly winds. Your house will be beautiful someday soon and you can be really proud of yourself for undertaking this monumental project. Stay warm!
